Like Irving Berlin states clearly; there is no business like show business. When Korngold took Hollywood by storm, having left Austria during the World War II, he revolutionised film scoring enriching movies with stunning music.

As Hollywood attracted many classical composers, offering good work and opportunities, their innovation and great imagination, altered the very idea of film composing, bringing a new respect to the genre. One of America most loved composers, Copland, also wrote both for the stage and film, represented in this concert program with his cherished Appalachian Spring.

A number of acclaimed performers ended up living in the Los Angeles area, like the violinist Jasha Heifetz, who through the movie screen brought fame to pieces like the enchanting Estrellita by Ponce. Today’s living legend, John Williams, is known for his iconic contributions to film music like Stars Wars, Harry Potter and Schindler’s List, as well as arranging loved compositions like Bock’s Fiddler on the Roof.

While Los Angeles became the center for film music, New York was where musicals made their way onto the stage. A true force within classical music as an active conductor, pianist and composer, Bernstein also put his mark on Broadway with his melting-pot works, producing huge hits like the sparkling Candide.

Terminamos este concierto y el festival con West Side Story, de este compositor, ambientada en la ciudad que nunca duerme, un escenario que nunca descansa, y que trae consigo las luchas y sueños de los esperanzados en un Nuevo Mundo.

We end this concert and the festival with Bernstein’s West Side Story, set in the city that never sleep, on a stage that never rests, bringing forth the struggles and dreams of the hopeful in a New World.
