The list of people that emigrated to the New World is endless. Dreaming of new career opportunities, many composers and performers, like Rachmaninoff, Romberg and Bloch, set sails for America in the late 1800s and early 1900s, each bringing with them their background and style, resulting in an exciting mix of cultures.

Later on when the World Wars roared in Europe, composers like Bartók, Stravinsky and Weill were forced to flee and continue their life across the Atlantic.

Several of the musicians took up important posts as conductors of emerging American orchestras, as influential teachers and heads of conservatories, and thus ended up shaping the future of music, performance and education in America.

In this program we can hear the memories of the “old” world in the works of Rachmaninoff, Bartók and Bloch, while the New World brings a different light to the works of Romberg, Dalla, Stravinsky and Weill.
